Kaisa El Ramly is a half Finnish half Egyptian actor, writer and director currently based in Helsinki, Finland. She is native in both Finnish and English, speaks Czech fluently and Swedish well. She has a very international background having lived her childhood in various countries and also having studied acting at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU). After graduating from DAMU with a BA in theatre studies, she returned to Finland and worked for a year as a moderator/journalist for an aspiring TV channel before getting an engagement as an actor first in the City Theatre in Vaasa and then later in the City Theatre in Turku.
After having acted consecutively for seven years, she founded her own theatre group and began to direct and produce independent productions. During those years, she also directed for other professional groups, before realizing that her directorial expression was more towards film.
She began her MA studies in film at the ELO Film School Finland and after graduating in 2016, she won the Nordic Talents (Nordisk Film & TV Fond) main prize for developing her debut feature film Getaways & Dreams, which premiered in 2023. She has also been a participant of the Nordic Film Lab, 2018, and the Scandinavian debut pitch in 2018. Both her short films and her debut film have travelled around the world in many different festivals.
Kaisa is a keen learner and enjoys studying new things. She keeps herself updated and has participated in various screenwriting and development labs during the past years (eg. Cine Qua Non Lab, Torino Film lab TFL Next TV Series, Sundance collab).
She is inspired by brave and dedicated professionals in all fields of life and admires originality and unique voices and visions. She is also an enthusiastic photographer and intrigued with light and shadows, both internal and external. She flourishes when working with different cultures, nationalities and languages. Currently she is writing her next feature film script and developing two tv series.
