Irene Lopez (SE)

Irene Lopez was born in 1980 in San Salvador, El Salvador and is a Swedish animator and director. Lopez came to Sweden with her family as a political refugee and currently resides in Stockholm where she works as film director.

Irene studied animation at Konstfack (2003-2005) and graduated from the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts (2012-2015) with a Bachelor of Arts in Documentary Filmmaking and (2021-2023) with a Master in fiction direction.
A selection of films include: Killing R, 2024 (official selection Göteborgs film festival 2024), I wanted a family, 2021 (Awarded at Tempo Short doc) They call me Navy, 2020, Pinocchio Without a Nose, 2012, (awarded Tempo New Doc) and The Brightest Star (2005, awarded 1:st Prize at the November
Film Festival).

2023 THE ARCHIVE OF LONGING Editor: On December 8th and 9th, art and music unite in Foajé 3 at
Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in the performance of Archive of Longing. In this work, photographer Hannah Modigh’s
soulful portraits of homeless women interact with five cellists playing a completely newly written piece of music,
specially written by composers Rebekka Karijord and Andrew Yee..
2021 FLY SO FAR Second edit- (The Seventeen, Nuestra libertad), I edited part of the movie about Theodora
Vasques who was imprisoned in El Salvador because of a miscarriage. The movie dives into the abortion laws
and how they affect the poorest in El Salvador. Directed by Celina Escher.

2022 MAKEEQUAL/OKEJ MED DIG Director. producer and writer- Film about consent in preschools. I wrote the
script and directed short episodes.
2022 Läs satsningen Eskilstuna- Writer, editor and director- I directed, edited and produced the film behind the
book OM ORM (by Sara Villius and Mari Kanstad Johnsen) together with Maja Heurling and Emma Gustafsson in
their magical theater performance.
2021 Linn Moser Hällen- Director, producer and editor- I worked with Linn Moser Hällen (social worker) and
made some films about domestic violence that she used for educational purposes.
